A Love Letter From A Documentary Photographer to Loved Ones

This is it. The day you’ve anticipated for as long as you can remember. The person you love—your daughter, son, child, mother, father, grandchild, best friend, soulmate, sister, brother, or sibling—is marrying someone they adore more than anyone else. You’re proud, ecstatic, and honored to be part of their day. You want the best for them, and while you understand the day is all about them, don’t count yourself out.

You are a vital part of their story. Perhaps one of the reasons they’ve made it to this moment. You’ve stood with them, cried with them, laughed with them, grown with them, and supported them through their darkest moments. They chose you to be here today to celebrate this incredible milestone.

With that, I want you to know: you are welcome here. You are part of the story I’m documenting. Please, don’t feel the need to step aside or quickly jump out of the frame. You don’t need to apologize for “getting in the shot.” You’re not an interruption. Instead, embrace this day—move around the room, go in for the hug, wipe the tear, take the photo, and simply be present. Your love and presence matter.

As a documentary photographer, my goal is to tell a story. Because you are an integral part of your loved one’s story, you are never in the way. I aim to capture genuine moments as they unfold naturally—the laughs, the tears, the hugs, and everything in between. These are the memories that will matter most.
